Quality 4.0 isn't really a story about technology. It's about how that technology improves culture, collaboration, competency and leadership. The last decade has seen rapid advances in connectivity, mobility, analytics, scalability and data, creating what some call the fourth industrial revolution, or Industry 4.0. With the help of the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), manufacturers have digitized operations, transforming efficiency, supply-chain performance and innovation. This revolution has even created entirely new business models. This e-book gives manufacturers the tools to lead the Quality 4.0 transformation – a transformation that raises traditional manufacturing to the next level. It teaches readers to use advanced technology, analytics and IIoT to strengthen the manufacturing process and bring it forward into a powerful digital age.

Your goal is clear-produce high-quality goods while optimizing resources at every step of production. And in today's uncertain economy, cost-control efforts may never have been more important. Unscheduled downtime because of equipment failure can have a serious impact on your organization's bottom line. Download this white paper from IBM, and learn the basics of predictive maintenance, the benefits it provides manufacturing operations and the underlying technologies that make it possible. Predictive analytics helps you in a number of ways: identify when equipment is likely to fail or need maintenance and take action to maximize uptime and reduce future warranty claims costs; optimize allocated labor resources and spare part inventories, helping eliminate undue maintenance, prevent downtime and reduce inventory costs; and determine why certain production runs fail more often than others, identify the cause and analyze whether those runs warrant a recall.

Whether it’s worrying about a possible break-in or an employee theft, protecting your business is always a concern. For busy warehouses and manufacturing companies, the worry is even greater, as time lost to responding to a crime means revenue loss. With expensive inventory, an active production site, and workers entering and leaving around the clock, reliable security is a must.

Manufacturing and product companies are facing critical challenges. To survive in the new global economy, companies need to continuously reinvent themselves. They need to rapidly add new products and acquire new businesses. They need to build new partnerships and channels. They can’t depend on the same set of suppliers tomorrow that they do today. And they can’t expect to do business the same way in new and emerging markets. For these reasons, enterprises need a new kind of ERP, one that’s faster to deploy and can: Adapt very quickly Go into the hands of employees, customers and partners immediately, with little or no training Provide continuous visibility into their operations It’s no surprise that CIOs, manufacturing managers and operational executives are looking for new solutions. They have to ?nd solutions to get the three strategic capabilities they need to succeed: greater operational agility, the ability to collaborate and continuous visibility. You need to position your com

Showing a softer side of manufacturing is winning over executives, according to a new study conducted by the FORTUNE Knowledge Group and gyro. While conventional wisdom and the standard manufacturing marketing approach would indicate that hard elements are more compelling, this new research suggests that the opposite is true: A significant majority of business leaders are moving to a more innate approach to decision-making, trusting their gut and relying on “soft” factors, such as company culture, reputation and level of trust, to help them make decisions.

Until recently, businesses that were seeking information about their customers, products, or applications, in real time, were challenged to do so. Streaming data, such as website clickstreams, application logs, and IoT device telemetry, could be ingested but not analyzed in real time for any kind of immediate action. For years, analytics were understood to be a snapshot of the past, but never a window into the present. Reports could show us yesterday’s sales figures, but not what customers are buying right now. Then, along came the cloud. With the emergence of cloud computing, and new technologies leveraging its inherent scalability and agility, streaming data can now be processed in memory, and more significantly, analyzed as it arrives, in real time. Millions to hundreds of millions of events (such as video streams or application alerts) can be collected and analyzed per hour to deliver insights that can be acted upon in an instant. From financial services to manufacturing, this rev

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 is upon us and manufacturers who want to stay competitive need to adapt or they will inevitably fall behind. However, that’s easier said than done. Updating proprietary legacy systems can be expensive, complicated, and lead to unwanted downtime that can slow production on the plant floor. How do companies accomplish such a critical change without draining budgets and upending workflow? Surprisingly, the answer doesn't always involve completely rebuilding systems from scratch. Instead, removing antiquated equipment and streamlining connectivity without creating new security risks could successfully start organizations on their path to reaping the benefits of Manufacturing 4.0

The exponential growth of omnichannel shopping and ever-burgeoning demand for faster merchandise deliveries is redefining the supply chain’s distribution of consumer products goods. A seminal shift in how shoppers increasingly buy via multiple touch points — online from desktop computers, mobile devices and in-store — has created the need for the “smarter” warehouse to serve today’s connected consumer. As retailers look to merge their brick-and-mortar and online operations to cut costs and boost efficiency, warehouse management systems must keep pace. For this report, Zebra Technologies analyzed the state of the warehousing marketplace among firms in the US and Canada with at least $15 million in annual revenues. The online survey asked IT and operations personnel in the manufacturing, retail, transportation and wholesale market segments to share their insights and business plans over the next five years, in light of a rapidly changing industry.

There is little question that cloud is well established as a way to deliver business applications. Based on IDC research, over 70% of manufacturing companies are using hosted applications somewhere within their supply chain, with another 25% considering it. The most popular supply chain management (SCM) application areas are transportation related (transportation management, global trade management), where the "network effect" (i.e., carrier pooling, regulatory impact) can leverage both shared knowledge and existing connectivity along with sales and operations planning, demand signal management, and business intelligence/analytics. The concern that cloud is "risky" is increasingly taking a back seat to the perceived benefits of the technology. Indeed, those benefits, both achieved and anticipated, are significant, including cost, speed of implementation, and the ability to "consume" new capabilities and functionality easily and transparently.
